Delicate Vines: A Vision Board on Connection With God

This week I've been ruminating over religion, spirituality and what it means to have a relationship with God.

I have yet to commit myself fully to any one doctrine of religion, because there are things that I love about so many of them; there are also a lot of things that I don't like about most of them.

I have the habit of going back and forth over what religion I should commit to, then ultimately, I decide that it's fine and I don't have to commit to just one. I tell myself that God understands that I want to connect with Him and to focus mainly on that connection and nothing else.

I asked myself, what is it that makes me feel connected to God?

This spurred some creation of course! A vision board specifically.

Oh, how I love a digital vision board. It is something that adds so much life to the screens we look at on a regular basis, that we probably shouldn't be looking at so much 🙃.

My vision board turned out to be a visual of women in very delicate moments. These vulnerable depictions elucidate the idea that creating a relationship with God may just be a very vulnerable journey, one that has you question so many things about the world in which we exist.

I might add that these photos were borrowed from a variety of sources which will be linked below. I tried my best to choose images in which the girls' faces weren't showing, but of course I made an exception for Sade.

I adore this image because it encompasses so much of what I was going for in the vision board. The different religious depictions represent the difficulty of my choice.

How do I decide on a path to guide me?

The lace represents the delicate nature of the task. It's no easy feat to choose a religious path for yourself. I chose images of women in materials like lace and silk or satin. These are tender forms of adornment.

I am obsessed with flowers. The hibiscus is one of my favorites because it was one of my mother's favorite flowers.

The blue flowers I'm unsure of. I don't know what they are called, but I love blue flowers ever since I had a dream about them years ago. I incorporated flowers because of the representation of a blooming relationship with a higher power.

I hope to make this relationship consistent in my life.

The Vision Board is called "Delicate Vines" due to the nature of a relationship with God being one that is so easily forgotten about in our hectic daily lives.

How do we keep that connection alive? How do we water that budding relationship and not forget. I'm not sure. I am still figuring it out, hence the board.

I like to think that movement helps me to connect with God. Also, being out in nature, journaling, and creating art. Prayer helps as well, but usually I pray in the form of writing; it feels more real that way.

I hope to create a life where I can do these things without feeling guilty, or feeling like they cause me to avoid my other responsibilities like my job or laundry.

At the end of the day, the connection I create with God is a vital part of my own humanity, so I need to see it as a priority and not just another thing on my to do list.
